We all know that Social Media is the current ‘wave of the future,’ has been for the past 5 years or so and will be all the way up until it’s bubble pops. So then, the key is to figure out how to ride that wave for as long as possible. There are way too many little nuances within the social media umbrella to discuss in one post, however, here is a thought to keep in mind.

With an SEO mindset, the thought is usually to try and reach out to as many other sites as possible in the hopes of getting the almighty link placed.  With Social Media, however, the idea is to generate content that is interesting and attractive enough that other people will come and take your link and put it on their own  site.

Sounds easy right? No, I don’t think it does either.

We are all familiar with videos that have gone viral or pictures that have become part of a meme and have then been plastered all over everyone’s site. Not everyone will be able to do that but you can at least capture a small piece of the pie.

A successful SEO firm recently made a presentation in which they heavily recommended the use of infographics for social media purposes. If you can get a good graphic that quickly makes a point and looks nice, it will disseminate quickly through the internet.

Infographic exampleFor instance see the attached picture, this is a great example of a simple picture that has become hugely successful and has spread (it is now even on Wikipedia). Now imagine what this would do for you if you were able to put up something as simple as an infographic.

Just something to keep in mind next time you sit down to brainstorm.
