Sorry, email outreach is here to stay. Even with constant innovations in communication methods we still all use it every day. Business happens through mail, not through social media.
Unfortunately, most email trash bins are full of impersonal emails that are poorly written and demand time, money, and attention that we don’t have or don’t want to give.
There are plenty of resources available to help you find the perfect formula and “guarantee” success. But, there is a less obvious example of successful outreach: scammers.
Countless websites catalogue the seemingly endless varieties of scam emails. Perhaps the most notorious is the “Nigerian Prince” or “419 scams” (reference to the criminal code for fraud in Nigeria).
These scams usually originate from the U.S., the U.K. or Nigeria. They usually involve a desperate plea for help to move “royal” money out of a country and only need you “To provide a Bank account where this money would be transferred to.” The amazing part is it works.
In 2009 victims lost over $9 billion from 419 scammers. The question is why? Although we could debate all day about the lack of logical thinking on the part of the victims, the point is, these Nigerian scammers were good. They answered four essential questions for their audience that are equally important questions for legitimate and honest marketers (like me and you) to be answering.
Who are you?
I prayed over it and selected your name among other names due to its esteeming nature and the recommendations given to me as a reputable and trust worthy person I can do business with and by the recommendations I must not hesitate to confide in you for this simple and sincere business. I am Wumi Abdul; the only Daughter of late Mr and Mrs George Abdul.
Why should I read this?
My father…was poisoned to death by his business associates on one of their outing to discuss on a business deal. Before the death of my father on 30th June 2002 in a private hospital here in Abidjan. He secretly called me on his bedside and told me that he has a sum of $12.500.000 (Twelve Million, five hundred thousand dollars).
What do you want?
Sir, we are honourably seeking your assistance in the following ways.
- To provide a Bank account where this money would be transferred to.
- To serve as the guardian of this since I am a girl of 26 years.
Lastly, what’s in it for me?
Moreover Sir, we are willing to offer you 15% of the sum as compensation for effort input after the successful transfer of this fund to your designate account overseas.
Anticipating to hear from you soon.
Thanks and God Bless.
Miss Wumi Abdul
Answer these four essential questions when doing your own (legitimate) outreach, and you, too, can find “royal” success.
